Phillip "Max" Coy

July 3, 1941 — August 2, 2021

JEROME

Phillip “Max” Coy of Jerome, Idaho passed away August 2, 2021. He was born July 3, 1941 in Ogden, Utah to Phillip D. Coy and Dorothy Ethel McGee Coy. Max graduated from Ben Lomond High School in Ogden, Utah. After graduating, he entered the Marine Corp for six years. Most of his time was spent in Japan and at Leper Island. When he got out of the military, he married Annette Irene Stuhlberg. After divorcing, Max married Sheila Eloise Schwendiman in 1992. A late start but found love for 29 years as a couple.

His #1 job was working for Idaho Power. If asked what he did for a living, he’d answer, “A jack of all trades and master of none.” He also worked at Sun Valley Company where his children learned to ski. He worked several years for Independent Meat and the Jerome School District.

Max was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. His hobbies were tying flies, fly fishing and rock hounding. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed yard work; especially, working in the flowerbeds. He loved the desert, road trips and spending as much time as possible in Yellowstone Park. That is where he grew up fly fishing. He’s now standing in a river fly fishing with grandpa Coy, his dad and his favorite Uncle France.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; and son, Max Phillip Coy, Jr. He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Sheila; daughters, Chris Annette Coy, and Kathy (Craig) Irene Coy Gibbs; stepson, Alex Schwendiman; stepdaughter, Anna (Ron) Piston; brother, Melvin (Janie) Coy; sister, Beverly Coy Sparks; grandchildren, Jordan, Zac, Alex, Garrett, Riley, Devin, Mason, Jake and Leo; and great grandchildren, Brooklyn and Judah.

The family would like to thank Dr. Steven Kohtz and his staff for the years of wonderful care given to Max. We would also like to thank Ashley Manor Care Center staff and caretakers for welcoming Max and making him feel at home from the very beginning. He felt so welcomed that he never asked to go home.
