Afton Mae Smith

May 20, 1935 — October 24, 2023

KIMBERLY

Afton Smith passed in peace on Tuesday, October 24, 2023 at the age of 88 in Twin Falls, Idaho.

Afton was born in Wellsville, Utah to Ira and Metta Petersen Hansen and was one of ten children. She was raised in Burley, Idaho where she started her family. She had a strong work ethic and after retiring from Simplot, she continued to work until she was 80 years old.

She found joy in black coffee, thrifting, gardening, crocheting, and spending time with her family by sitting on her porch or taking long drives to just about anywhere.

She had a wonderful sense of humor and her sharp wit made for good conversation and endless laughs. Her extreme stubbornness made her fiercely loyal, and her frugalness allowed her to give freely. She had an adventurous spirit and lived a simple, yet meaningful life.

She will be greatly missed by her children, Karen Rasmussen, Jerry Hansen, Kim Sechrist, and Tracy Hansen; er grandchildren, Paul Thaxton, Chris Hansen, Darci Adams, Brock Ploof, NaShea Hansen, Whitney Hansen, Shayne Hansen, Morgan Hansen, Mathew Hansen, Jack Morton, Brittany Hansen, Kcee Hansen, Cheilynn Hansen, and Steven Hansen; along with many great grandchildren and her two siblings, Marlene Moen of Ennis, Montana and Roger Hansen of Burley, Idaho.

She will be welcomed by her parents, Ira and Metta Hansen; her husband, Mike Smith; alongside loving life partners; her children, Steven and Shelli Hansen; her son-in-law, Bernie Sechrist; as well as many siblings and lifelong friends.

Her family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at St. Luke’s ICU for making a difficult experience, as peaceful as possible.

A small celebration of life will be held with her immediate family.  In lieu of flowers, please donate to your local animal shelter in Afton’s name.

“Goodbyes are not forever, it is not the end. It simply means I’ll miss you, until we meet again.”
