Bessie Standlee

Bessie Ruth Jackson Standlee, 91, of Wendell and formerly of Jerome, passed away peacefully at the Bennett Hills Care and Rehabilitation Center in Gooding, Idaho, on the evening of November 25, 2014. She was born October 29, 1923, in Magna, Utah, the oldest daughter of Willard Smith Jackson and Hazel Virginia Fife Jackson. She was raised on the family farm northeast of Jerome. She graduated from Jerome High School then spent two years at Lewiston Business College. On June 25, 1945, she married Dale Standlee in Jerome. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS temple. They were married for 45 years. Bessie was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in a variety of callings along with being a dedicated member of the choir. She was active in many business organizations in Jerome and was named Woman of the Year by Who's Who of American Women in 1974. She worked for F.R. Mann in the insurance business for 13 years and then she and Dale purchased the business and renamed it Jerome Realty and Insurance. Her later years in business were spent working at Prescott and Craig Insurance in Jerome. She retired in 1990.
Bessie is survived by her son Marvin (Pam) Standlee of Wendell; five siblings, Kelly (Melba) Jackson of Boise, Marguerite Douglass of Rupert, Ramona Groves of Salt Lake City, Carl (Nancy) Jackson, Earl (Beverly) Jackson and sister-in-law Claribel Prince, all of Jerome. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Dale Standlee, her brother Willard Glen Jackson, daughter-in-law Janet Standlee and two brothers-in-law Nephi Douglass and Keith Groves.
Memorial services will be conducted at 1:00 PM, Tuesday December 2, 2014, at Farnsworth Mortuary Chapel, 1343 South Lincoln, Jerome.
