Bruce Gene Bishop, 79, of Jerome, and a beloved figure in the trucking world, passed away May 11, 2026, in Twin Falls, Idaho. Born on May 27, 1946, in El Centro, California, Bruce lived a life marked by dedication, adventure, and a deep love for both his family and his craft.
Bruce’s journey began on Bishop Dairy in Escondido, which led him to Idaho to start a calf ranch. From these roots, he developed a profound work ethic that accompanied him throughout his life. His professional path ultimately led him to ownership of Earthquake Express, where his passion for trucking flourished. Known for his infectious storytelling and generous spirit, Bruce was fondly remembered by many as a social butterfly who loved to share tales of his escapades, especially those moments spent skillfully dodging scalehouses on the road. His knowledge of backroads was legendary, always ready to guide fellow truckers through any route necessary. Sundays were sacred for NASCAR, and Bruce never missed a chance to admire the gleam of hotrods and the shine of chrome, a reflection of his pride in his equipment, from wheels to trailer.
He was a proud graduate of Holtville High School, and his high school football team was recently inducted into the Hall of Fame. Bruce also served his country with honor in the United States Army from 1965 to 1968. His years of service remain a testament to his steadfast character and commitment to something greater than himself.
Bruce’s warmth extended beyond the road. He had a special affection for animals, embracing big dogs and little cats with equal tenderness. Personal anecdotes about Bruce often included his jovial phrases like "I had a girlfriend like that once" and his fondness for "Barley Pop," which friends and family will recall as a part of his unique charm.
He is survived by his sister, Nancy (Greg) Thornburg; children, Alexa Bishop, Jason Bishop, Tel (Nancy) Bishop, Robyn (Justin) Chase, and Shayna (Jordan) Beliveau; along with 16 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren who carry forward his legacy. Bruce’s loving partner in life, Chris Bishop, stood by his side through many of life’s journeys, sharing in countless moments of joy and companionship.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Kay and Earl Bishop; his brother, Steve Bishop; and Kathleen, mother of Tel and Robyn.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, May 16, 2026, at Farnsworth Mortuary, 1343 S Lincoln Ave, Jerome.
