Dean A. Emery, 73, of Jerome, Idaho, passed away peacefully on June 28, 2025.
Dean was born on July 20, 1951, in Burley, Idaho, to LaDon H. Emery and Betty LaRae Anderson. He was the eldest and only son, growing up alongside his two sisters, Lynette Wood and Anita Murnighan.
Dean graduated from Declo High School in 1969 and spent his early years working on the family ranch in Albion, Idaho. He went on to have a long and respected 28-year career with the Amalgamated Sugar Company, where he worked in the Field Department. After retiring, Dean pursued his passion for craftsmanship by starting his own construction and tile business, Special Effects, which he operated for 15 years. Throughout his life, Dean formed lasting friendships wherever he went—his kindness and work ethic left an impression on everyone he met.
An animal lover at heart, Dean had a remarkable talent for caring for and rehabilitating injured wildlife. From owls to foxes and raccoons, he had a gift for helping animals heal and return to nature.
Dean married the love of his life, Joan Hadlock, and the two shared 52 devoted years together. Joan lovingly cared for Dean during the last seven years of his life following a traumatic brain injury. Together, they raised five children and were blessed with eleven grandchildren: Seth, Naomi, Joey, Ivy, Lily, Avery, Lucy, Presley, Paige, Zoey, and Riley.
Dean is survived by his wife, Joan; his children, Julie, Brad, Chad, and Curtis; sisters, Lynette and Anita; and his grandchildren, who brought him great joy. He was preceded in death by his beloved son, Kelly, as well as his parents and grandparents.
Dean’s quiet strength, sense of humor, and deep love for his family and animals will be remembered and cherished by all who knew him.
