Elizabeth Ann Chojnacky, 83, of Jerome, Idaho passed away on July 19, 2024. Elizabeth had a beautiful life and amazing family. Her parents were Enos and Lois Andrews. Elizabeth was born on her mother’s birthday in Twin Falls, Idaho on March 21. Her family lived in Twin Falls until November of 1947 when they moved to a farm in Wendell, Idaho. She enjoyed growing up with her two sisters and four brothers. They always loved getting together for family potlucks and pinochle.
Elizabeth attended first grade school at Bickel Elementary in Twin Falls. She graduated with the Wendell Class of 1959 and had many friends that she enjoyed seeing at reunions. In 1962, she worked one summer at Alturus Lake Lodge and made strawberry pies. Then she attended Twin Falls Business College and graduated in 1963. In 1962, she met Alvin at a local dance and fell in love. Elizabeth and Alvin were married at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Wendell on October 19, 1963. They had six children.
Elizabeth loved to read books, grow flowers, take care of her garden, can fruits and vegetables, go on trips, play pinochle and watch Gunsmoke. Alvin and Elizabeth had a beautiful yard, orchard, and farm. She enjoyed growing beautiful flowers and would sell bouquets for Memorial Day. In the fall, the whole family worked hard to pick all the fruit to sell, and mom would stay busy canning lots of fruit too. Elizabeth enjoyed being a mother and would involve the kids in scouts and sports. She was a den mother in scouts and would often go on school field trips with the kids. She loved being a grandma and would have tea parties and help them gather flowers for the fair. She also enjoyed going to their concerts and games.
Elizabeth was a member of the Women’s Catholic League and had a wonderful Fourth Day prayer group. She loved her church friends and community. She always enjoyed helping out with church dinners, coffee hour, and making pies for the Catholic Church fair booth. She was known to make the best pies at the fair and would bake around 70 pies for fair week, of course she had some wonderful helpers too. For many years, she also helped students practice reading in her daughter’s first grade class. She also enjoyed going to the Senior Center for many years to eat lunch and to play pinochle.
Elizabeth loved her family and friends. Special thanks to her caregiver, Katy Pratt, who helped Ann and Gary take care of her mom for several years. She always spoiled our mom with a cheeseburger and ice cream. Also, another special thank you to all the staff at Creekside Care Center for taking great care of our mom. She truly loved the staff and being there to get her nails painted and playing Bingo. She was a loving person that had so much compassion and love for her family and friends. We are all touched by our special memories of her. She will be greatly missed by all of us!
Elizabeth is survived by her children, Edward Chojnacky (Tina), Ellen Drown (Steve), Mark Chojnacky (Lori), Matthew Chojnacky (Angela), Ann Showers (Gary), and Andrew Chojnacky (Danielle); 14 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren; as well as her sister, Barbara Fuller; and brother, Jerry Andrews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Alvin Chojnacky; brothers, Stanley Andrews, Russell Andrews, and Roger Andrews; sister, Arlene Garrison; and son-in-law, Steve Drown.
