Emily Jeanne (Jeanne) Brooks, our beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend to many, passed away on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, at home.
She was born to Wayne and Lila Weigle on October 29, 1929 (Black Friday!) and grew up on the family farm and sheep ranch north of Jerome. Some of her favorite memories were lambing season, feeding bum lambs, and watching the shearing of the sheep. She met the love of her life, Nathan Brooks, and, after dating for two years, they married December 28, 1947.
Jeanne loved to cook. She spent one season cooking for the sheep men and farm hands. She was an accomplished seamstress, sewing countless prom dresses, Easter dresses and even a wedding dress. She sewed clothes for display at Tingwall’s Department Store. She was also an avid quilter and crocheter. Her children and grandchildren were recipients of those much-loved items. She was an amazing gardener with a true love of all flowers. Jeanne was a bookkeeper for Nathan while raising 5 children, and she also worked at Sawtooth Market, Hamilton Drug, and Ridley’s Market. She did volunteer work for the Jerome Public Library and volunteered at Horizon Elementary School and taught Primary into her 80’s.
Jeanne is survived by her four daughters, Sherrie Walker (Dan) of Boise, Beckie Kukal (Gary) of Jerome, Lisa Boman (Tim) of Twin Falls, and Jan Ganguet (Terry) of Jerome. In addition, she is survived by 11 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren whom she adored and who adored her.
Jeanne was preceded in death by her husband, Nathan; son, Craig; and her brother, Leroy, and his wife, Barbara.
At her request, a private family service will be held at a later date.
In memory of, and in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to: The Jerome Public Library Foundation, 100 1st Ave East, Jerome, Idaho 83338.
