Ernesto Fernandez, 91, of Jerome, Idaho, passed away peacefully on August 12, 2026, with his wife and children by his side. He leaves behind a legacy of love, resilience and devotion to his family and friends.
Ernie was born on August 25, 1934, in Wagon Mound, New Mexico, to Natividad “Nate” and Margarita Fernandez. He grew up surrounded by the love of his 5 brothers and 1 sister whom he loved very much.
On April 19,1955, Ernie married Fidelia Bernal in Maxwell, New Mexico. Together they had 7 children, raised 6 of them and lost a son, Junior, at 6 months old. A hardworking and determined man, Ernie worked road construction throughout New Mexico moving his family everywhere the next job took him. When road construction slowed down and jobs were hard to find, his brother Joe talked him into moving to Idaho. He said he had a job here for him. He came to Idaho in 1968 and began working for Don Thibault Farming. He spent the next 25 years there until his retirement.
Ernie was preceded in death by his parents, Nate and Margarita Fernandez; each of his wonderful brothers and his sister; his beloved son, Junior; and his grandson, Jason.
He leaves behind his wife Fidelia; daughters, Louise, Elizabeth, Terry (LeRoy) and Sandra (Doug); two sons, John and Daniel (Brenda); 7 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren; extended family; and many dear friends, all of whom will miss him deeply and cherish the memories they shared with him.
The family wishes to sincerely thank Dr. Anderson for caring for our father, Visions Hospice Staff and his amazing nurses. Our family is forever grateful.
