Gayla Lynn Blom was born in Boise, ID on June 22, 1955. She was the 10th child of a family of 11 children. She lived in Boise until May 1967 when the family relocated to Wendell, ID. She finished her schooling and worked at Wendell Manor up until she married John Blom in 1974. John and Gayla resided most of their life with their children in Jerome, ID.
Gayla worked at Hamilton Drug, Kwik Service, Creekside Assisted Living, and Crest Motel in Jerome for a time. Amidst all of that in 1989, John and Gayla purchased a small dairy North of Jerome which John, Gayla and their three children operated until 2007. To say that Gayla was ambitious is an understatement. She had a zest for life, a heart for people, and never knew a stranger. Her last and favorite position was at Creekside Assisted Living where she thrived. The relationships she shared with the residents and co-workers were life long and they all became part of her extended family.
On top of these many things, she raised three children and adored spending time with her grandchildren, all of whom brought her pure joy. Her passions were cooking, taking care of plants and flowers, and spoiling her hummingbirds, and she passed these passions on to all of her children and grandchildren.
She was always busy decorating the house, and whatever house we were in she made a home. Gayla loved to sing and could often be heard singing while doing whatever task. She also enjoyed sharing her singing talent at church and the nursing home ministry including Maranatha House and later Ashley Manor.
She is survived by eight brothers and sisters; her adoring husband, Jacob John Blom; her children, Hilarie (Josh) Blom-Toews, Heidi (Travis) Reddick, and Arie (Leigh) Blom; and four grandchildren, Delilah Toews, Decatur Reddick, Colden Reddick, and Cyrus Blom. She was preceded in death by her parents, Bertle “Bert” Blackmer and Zovalier Blackmer; along with her brother, Jimmy Lockhart; and her sister, Beverly Curtis.
After a short illness, Gayla passed peacefully at home surrounded by her family on October 12, 2024. She passed from life here onto everlasting life. Her radiant smile and vibrant personality will truly be missed by all who knew her.
Thank you for the compassionate care that she received from Creekside Assisted Living and Hospice Visions.
