Harold Scheer

August 24, 1933 — September 12, 2014

Jerome- Harold James Scheer, 81, of Jerome, passed away peacefully on Friday September 12, 2014, at home after a long illness, surrounded by his family. Harold was born August 24,1933 in Morrowville, Kansas to Frank and Amelia Nutsch Scheer. Harold attended grade school in Kansas until age 11 when the family moved to a farm southwest of Jerome. He attended Canyonside Grade School, Jerome Junior High, and graduated from Jerome High School in 1952.

Harold spent the next six years in the US Navy, attaining the rank of Petty Officer Second Class. He served aboard the USS Chevalier, a radar picket destroyer, as a Boiler's Mate. The ship patrolled the coastline of North Korea during the Korean War. From there the ship was on patrol to Japan, Hong Kong, the Phillipine Islands, Indonesia, and Australia, eventually returning to port in San Diego.

Harold returned to the family farm after his discharge, meeting Patricia Kay Magaw on a blind date. Harold and Patricia were married on June 27, 1964, and farmed southwest of Jerome for almost 40 years. They recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. Harold also worked for Lamb Weston in Twin Falls, retiring in 1997 after 20 years of service.

Harold is survived by his wife Patricia, sisters Frances (John Ehrmantraut), Joan (Dave Hansing) and Jean (Gerald Gause); and children Larry (Lisa), Brenda (Dave Miner) and Kevin; and grandchildren Logan, Mackenzie, and Megan; and his faithful companions Gus and Katie.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Amelia. The family would like to thank Idaho Home Health & Hospice for their exceptional care and support. A vigil service will be held at 7:00 PM on Thursday, September 18, 2014 at St. Jerome Catholic Church, 216 2nd Avenue east, Jerome, with a visitation beginning at 6:00 PM . A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 AM , Friday September 19, 2014, also at St. Jerome Catholic Church, with Fr. Rob Irwin presiding. Interment with military honors will follow in the Jerome Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to call at St. Jerome Parish Hall following the services. Arrangements are under the care of Farnsworth Mortuary of Jerome.
