James R. Burns

James R. Burns, affectionately known as "JR," passed away on June 30, 2026, at his campsite in Twin Falls, Idaho. He was born on August 23, 1947, in Rexburg, Idaho, and throughout his 78 years, JR lived a life marked by resilience, warmth, and a steadfast dedication to his family.

JR’s journey began in the heart of Rexburg, where he developed the values that would guide him throughout his days—integrity, humility, and an abiding respect for others. His early years were nurtured by his parents, James Burleigh Burns and Sybil Marie Polson Burns, and by the companionship of his siblings.

After college, JR served six years in the Army National Guard as a sharpshooter and expert marksman. Following his discharge from the military, JR had successful careers with the Rodeos, as security, and as a Range Master. JR married Constance Rubright on December 22, 2001 in Tangipahoa, Louisiana. After his retirement he became the full-time driver for all of his and Connie's RV travel adventures.

JR found great joy in the bonds of family. He was a devoted husband to his beloved wife, Connie Rubright-Burns, whose unwavering partnership brought stability and happiness to his life. Together, they navigated the milestones and everyday moments that come with building a life and family. He cherished the role of father, and grandfather, supporting and guiding his children with quiet strength and unconditional love.

JR’s character left a memorable impression on those around him. Whether spending time with loved ones or embracing peaceful moments outdoors while fishing, hunting, camping, traveling or just cuddling with his fur babies, he found contentment in simple joys and meaningful relationships.

JR is deeply missed by his surviving family: his wife of 34 years, Connie; his son, Colter and his family; and his daughter, Mandi and her family; including five grandchildren and one great grandchild. The loss is felt profoundly, but they—and all who knew him—take comfort in memories of his steady presence, gentle humor, and enduring spirit.

He is reunited in rest with his father, James Burleigh Burns; his mother, Sybil Marie Polson Burns; his two half-sisters and two half-brothers.

The Burns family would like to thank everyone for their support and remembrance during this difficult time. 

JR will be long remembered for his sincerity, devotion to family, and the quiet legacy he leaves behind.
