James Riley Casey

Nov 16, 1946 — Oct 19, 2026

RUPERT

James Riley Casey “Jimmy” suddenly left this earth on October 19, 2026. He was a man who lived with grit, independence, and a deep love for the outdoors. Born with a spirit that was both restless and tender, Jimmy moved through life with strength and a devotion to the places and people he loved.

Jimmy was born to James and Lorraine Casey on November 16, 1946 in Anaconda, Montana. He grew up in many parts of Montana, Wyoming, and Idaho. Jimmy served in the Army for a short time.

Jimmy was married multiple times throughout his life, each chapter marked by growth, companionship, and the hope that comes with beginning again. He valued connection, and he carried lessons from each relationship with him, shaping the man he became.

The outdoors was Jimmy’s true sanctuary, whether he was fishing or hunting. He felt most at home under an open sky, with the smell of sagebrush, and river water around him. Fishing and hunting weren’t just hobbies for him, they were traditions, rituals, and sources of peace, along with family parties singing karaoke around the fire pit in Casey Park. Whether casting a line at dawn or tracking game through rough sagebrush, he found clarity and purpose in nature. Those who knew him can still picture him there; steady, patient, and fully himself.

He leaves behind many family and friends who will remember his rugged humor, his stubborn streak, his generosity, and the way he lit up when telling a good hunting or fishing story. His legacy lives on in the memories shared around campfires, in the lessons passed down to younger generations, and in the wild places he loved so deeply.

Jimmy is survived by his wife, Lorie Casey; sister, Rosie (Greg) Miller; children, James (Stacy) Blackwood, Danny (Stephanie) Blackwood, Charlie (WIFE) Blackwood, Shane (Shelly) Casey, Andrew (Jennifer) Casey, Angela (Robert) Crabtree, Brian (WIFE) Walgamott, Jamie Jensen, Shyanne (Donny) Butcher, Dakota (Britnee) Casey, and Ryan (Luna Ramirez) Casey; step-children, Donnie (Lori) Hobbs, Teresa Baker, and Amber Goodenough; and many grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Linda Smith; brother, Dale Casey; niece, Launa Jean Donaldson; and step-son, Eddie Lydon.

May Jimmy rest in peace, and may the mountains, rivers, and open country that he cherished carry his memory forward.
