Jimmy Joe Pruett

Jimmy Joe Pruett passed away on Sunday, October 25, 2026.

Joe was born on April 15, 1946, in Bliss, Idaho, to James Albert and Fern Fae Pruett. He grew up in Bliss and graduated from Bliss High School in 1964. Following graduation, Joe worked in road construction and was a proud member of Operating Engineers Local 360 and Local 302, from which he eventually retired.

While working in Colfax, Washington, he met Sherry Marie Hofford, whom he later married. Together they had two sons, J.D. and Chris. The family returned to Bliss, where they raised their boys and instilled in them Joe's remarkable work ethic, commitment to family, and dedication to community service.

Joe devoted decades of his life to serving the community he loved. He served as a City Council member, Mayor, member of the Bliss Fire Department, Quick Response Unit (QRU), and Search and Rescue. He was also a dedicated sponsor and mentor to numerous individuals through Alcoholics Anonymous, helping many begin their journey of recovery.

Joe was preceded in death by his father, James Albert Pruett; his mother, Fern Fae Pruett; and his sister, Joanne Allen.

He is survived by his sons, J.D. (Sophie) Pruett of Bliss and Chris Pruett of Bliss; his grandchildren, Sheryll Goeckner of La Grande, Oregon, Michelle (Blake) Casel of Jerome, Whitney Pruett of Twin Falls, Idaho, and Adam Pruett of Bliss; as well as five great-grandchildren.

Joe will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to his family, his strong work ethic, his service to others, and his deep love for the Bliss community. His legacy will continue through the many lives he touched and the family he cherished.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 am, Monday, November 2, 2026 at Bliss Community Church, 503 US 30, Bliss. Burial will conclude at Upper Clover Creek Cemetery.
