LaRue Humphries

LaRue Pearce Humphries was born on December 17, 1928, to Louis Cordon Pearce and Jessie Ellis Pearce. She was an only child until her sister, Sandra, joined the family when LaRue was thirteen.

She loved growing up in Utah, surrounded by mountains. A favorite activity of LaRue’s as a child was camping with aunts, uncles, and cousins. One of LaRue’s aunts would always bring a milk cow so they would have fresh milk for the kids and cream to make homemade ice cream, which they would eat around the campfire.

LaRue attended elementary school in Cornish and often talked about riding to the small country schoolhouse with her classmates in a horse-and-carriage driven by her father. When she was in the fifth grade, her family moved to Downey, Idaho, and then back to Logan, Utah. During seventh grade, they moved to Ogden, Utah, and stayed there until LaRue’s senior year of high school, when her family moved to Jerome, Idaho. LaRue loved school and greatly enjoyed being with her friends.

It was during her senior year that she met her eternal companion, Grant Humphries. They soon married and remained in Jerome, where they raised their children and made their community a better place through countless acts of service. While her children were growing up, LaRue worked as a meat wrapper for Safeway stores.

Grant and LaRue deeply loved and devoted themselves to each other. During their retirement years, they enjoyed spending all their time together while travelling or staying home.

LaRue had a firm and unwavering testimony of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Her children knew she prayed for them multiple times each day. Her life was spent in service to her family and her church, where she held numerous leadership roles, including Relief Society and Primary President.

LaRue was a model of honesty and integrity every day of her life. Her children always enjoyed a clean home and delicious meals. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren knew that there would always be homemade chocolate chip cookies for them at Grandma LaRue’s house.

Although our mother had lost her eyesight and most of her hearing, she lived in her home until the time of her death, bravely taking care of herself and cheering others on. She took great comfort in knowing that when she left this earth, she would be reunited with her eternal sweetheart, Grant. To the end of her life, she was a beacon of optimism for her family and others around her.

LaRue is survived by her children, Grant Jr., Carol Sue (David) Heber, Patty (Jeff) Ward, Kathy (Arlen) Jensen, and Marty (Sonja) Humphries; and by her sister, Sandra Sheppard. She was preceded in death by her husband, Grant, her son, Michael, and her son-in-law, Arlen Jensen. LaRue’s greatest joys in life are her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

A Viewing will be held from 4:00 pm until 6:00 pm, Friday, October 31, 2025, at Farnsworth Mortuary, 1343 South Lincoln Ave., Jerome. Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 am, with a viewing at 10:00 am, Saturday, November 1, 2025, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 825 East Ave. B, Jerome. Burial will conclude at the Jerome Cemetery.
