Layne Jackson

March 26, 1948 — March 20, 2017

Layne Jackson age 68 of Jerome, Idaho passed away March 20, 2017 at his home.

He was born March 26, 1948 to Willard Glen Jackson and Claribel Smith Jackson in Wendell, Idaho.  He grew up working on the family farm and went to school in Jerome where he graduated in 1967. He joined the US National Guard and was active for 6 years.  He started working for Mountain States Telephone and Telegraph at the age of 20 and worked for them through many name changes for 32 years retiring in 2000. Layne then went to work in Stanley for Power Engineers for two summers.

Layne married Nancy Pincock, his sweetheart and companion, on June 19, 1971 in the Idaho Falls Temple. He was a hard worker and taught his children the value of hard work. He loved to spend time with his family. Layne was an active member of the LDS Church serving in many callings including a counselor in the bishopbric, ward clerk and various scouting positions.

Layne’s love of the outdoors took him to many places and he instilled in his children the love of being outside. He loved horses, hunting, camping, riding his motorcycle and four-wheeler, wood working and taking pictures. His wood work adorns the home of many friends and family. Layne went on multiple 50 mile hikes with his sons and looked forward to yearly hunting trips with his boys and close family friends. He loved hunting so much he was an IDFG Hunter Safety Instructor and taught all his kids and hundreds of members of the Jerome community.  In 2004 he invested in Pioneer Outfitters as a partner with his son Devan, enjoying 13 summers of trail rides and pack trips. He enjoyed driving the wagon with a team of horses for wagon rides and weddings. Layne loved interacting with the guests and meeting all kinds of new people from all over the world.

Layne is survived by his wife of 45 years, Nancy; daughter, Shana Jackson of Jerome; son, Jarrod (Lydia) Jackson of Jerome; son, Devan (Christie) Jackson of Jerome and Stanley; daughter, Kaila (Menno) Peachy of Helena, Montana; daughter, Carie Jackson (Levi Titus) of Glenns Ferry; daughter, Daina Jackson of Jerome; nine grandchildren, Cody, Jordan, Amanda and Cooper Jackson; Kassidy, Jessie and Laura Titus; and Theodore and Rea Claire Peachy; his mother, Claribel Jackson Prince; sister, Elaine Martin; brother, Robert Glen Jackson; and brother, Rocky Jackson.

He was preceded in death by his father, Willard Glen Jackson; and daughter, Farrah Rae Jackson.

Friends may visit from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm, Monday, March 27, 2017 at Farnsworth Mortuary, 1343 S Lincoln, Jerome. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Tuesday, March 28, 2017, at the Jerome 2 nd , 5 th & 7 th Ward LDS church building, 50 East 100 South, Jerome, with viewing an hour prior to service. Grave dedication will conclude at Jerome Cemetery.
