Leo R. Becker, 83, passed away Thursday, May 1, 2025 at his home in Charles City, Iowa.
Leo was born on April 25, 1942, in Farmington, Minnesota, to John Andrew Becker and Rose Margaret Gores Becker. The youngest of 10 children, he was surrounded by love and family. Together, he and his siblings said many prayers, the speed of which depended on if Mom was within hearing distance, and played many games, particularly Nerts and Cribbage. His love of cards also earned him the nickname of “Maverick.”
He married his sweetheart, Elizabeth “Beth” Davidson, on May 26, 1962. They had three children, six grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
He enjoyed working with his hands. Woodworking, fishing, tending the flowers, feeding the birds, and reading were some of his favorites. He could frequently be found sitting on the porch, and always had at least one book nearby, sharing his love of reading with his family. He will be remembered for his love of popcorn and ice cream and, of course, the mischievous twinkle in his eyes.
He is survived by his wife, Beth of 62 years of marriage; his daughter Carrie (Allen) Ploss of Jerome, Idaho and son Chris (Julie) Becker of Elma, Iowa; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; brother, John; sister, Mary; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Rose; brothers and sisters, Ruth, Gerald, Mary Anne, Ralph, Veronica, Imelda, Joseph; daughter, Rose; and his grandson, Erik.
Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 am, with a visitation beginning at 10:00 am, Saturday, May 24, 2025, at St. Mathias Catholic Church, 23315 Northfield Blvd. Hampton, Minn., with Father Mike Tix presiding. Interment to follow in the St. Mathias Catholic Cemetery. Following the interment, family and friends are invited to gather for a luncheon and memories at St. Mathias Catholic Church in Hampton.
Memories and condolences may be shared with the family on Leo's memorial webpage at www.farnsworthmortuary.com.
