Linda Carol Callender-McClain

August 26, 1949 — April 12, 2026

HAGERMAN

Linda Carol Callender-McClain entered this world on August 26, 1949, at Fort Lewis, Washington, born to Margaret Adina Larson and Charles “Chuck” W. Callender. She spent her childhood in Washington and Alaska, graduating from Mount Vernon High School in 1967, before continuing her education at Skagit Valley College.

In 1969, Linda welcomed her greatest pride and life’s most cherished gift—her son, Derek Milner. He remained the center of her heart throughout her life.

Following her education, Linda spent approximately 20 years living in the Seattle area, where she built the early foundation of her adult life.

Linda later moved to Fairbanks, Alaska, where she built both a life and a career marked by dedication and excellence. As an Administrative Assistant for the Interior Regional EMS in Fairbanks, she was known not only for her professionalism, but for the steady, capable presence she brought to those around her.

When Linda retired, she didn’t slow down—she set herself free.

With a spirit rooted in curiosity and courage, she sold her home and began a remarkable solo journey across the country in her beloved motorhome, “Rosie,” accompanied by her loyal kitty, Gracie. Together, they wandered highways and byways, reconnecting with old friends, visiting family, and collecting moments that would become treasured memories. Linda had a rare gift for turning ordinary stops into meaningful connections, and her travels were filled with laughter, stories, and love.

It was during one of these journeys that fate stepped in. When her motorhome awning unexpectedly flew open while she was driving, a kind stranger flagged her down to help—Ron, who would later become her husband. What began as a moment of need grew into a meaningful companionship and a life they would continue building together.

Linda and Ron made their home in Hagerman for the past nine years, where she continued to create, connect, and build meaningful friendships.

Linda’s adventurous heart extended far beyond the open road. She spent a month in Italy, traveled through Spain, and also explored England, immersing herself in culture, beauty, and time with dear friends. She and Ron shared a special trip to Saint Croix, visiting her brother Don and sister-in-law, Glenda, where Linda fell in love with the island’s warmth, beauty, and the joy of being surrounded by family.

At her core, Linda was an artist. She saw the world not just as it was, but as it could be—full of color, texture, and possibility. She was a gifted painter and a talented jewelry maker, creating pieces that reflected both her creativity and her deep understanding of the stones and gems she worked with. Each piece she crafted carried intention, beauty, and a bit of her spirit. She loved sharing her work at local markets in Southern Idaho, where her art connected her with others.

Linda also had a tender and compassionate heart, especially for animals. She had a special gift for caring for the smallest and most fragile kittens, nurturing them back to health with patience and love, and ensuring each one found a safe and caring home. Her kindness extended quietly but powerfully, leaving a lasting impact on both people and animals alike.

In her final chapter, Linda was surrounded by the deep and steady friendship of Aysa and Nancy, her dear friends in Hagerman. They remained by her side until nearly the very end, offering comfort, companionship, and care. Linda spoke often of how much she loved them and how grateful she was for the time they shared.

Linda passed away on April 12, 2026, leaving behind a life full of experiences, stories, and moments deeply lived.

She is survived by her loving husband, Ron; son, Derek Milner; brothers, Thomas Edwin Barton (Sharon), Don Callender (Glenda), and sister, Sharon Barton Packer.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Margaret and Chuck, brother, James Melvin Dalton, and her faithful kitty, Gracie.

A celebration of Linda’s life will be held on May 9, 2026, at 11:00 AM at the Hagerman Valley Senior Center, 140 E Lake Street in Hagerman.

In honoring Linda’s wishes, her ashes will be spread at Deception Pass, a place held close to her heart and one her father called the most beautiful place on earth. It is there, alongside him, that her journey will come full circle—returned to a place of peace, beauty, and enduring love.

Linda lived a life defined by independence, creativity, compassion, and adventure. She followed the road wherever it led, loved deeply, created beautifully, and leaves behind a legacy of warmth, resilience, and wonder.
