Loren Vogel

Jerome- Visiting with Loren Joseph Vogel was an opportunity to see the world for its simple joys. He loved the things we often take for granted – a home-cooked meal, a stuffed animal, a friendly face. He enthusiastically greeted all those he met with a smile and he would talk to anyone.

Loren left this world on November 3, the result of a heart condition that escalated unexpectedly. His heart was too big to carry.

Loren was born in Jerome, Idaho, on December 13, 1967. He graduated from Jerome High School in 1988, receiving a standing ovation at the commencement.

While growing up, Loren traveled with Jerome’s Special Olympics team, competing at events around the state. Later, for more than 20 years, he performed maintenance activities in the Twin Falls area as a participant of Magic Valley Rehabilitation Services.

Loren was an active, lifelong Catholic and member of St. Jerome’s Catholic Community, and most Sundays after mass you’d find him in the church hall enjoying doughnuts and juice. Loren loved swimming, camping and fishing.

Loren lived in Jerome with his mother and father, Donna Lee and Lawrence Vogel, brother, Duane, and uncle, Eugene Ross. He is also survived by his sister, brother-in-law and nieces, Christina, Bret, Charli and Abi Patterson, of Meridian, and his brother, Aaron, of Star. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Ed and Esther Ross, and Charles and Ada Vogel.

We thank doctors Elizabeth Sugden and Steven Writer, as well as St. Luke’s Home Care & Hospice, for so lovingly caring for Loren.

A vigil for Loren will be held Thursday, Nov. 10, 2016 , at 7:00 p.m. , at St. Jerome’s Catholic Church, 216 2 ^nd Ave E, Jerome, Idaho. A celebration mass will be on Friday, Nov. 11 , at 11 a.m. , at St. Jerome’s, with a reception to follow in the church hall.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to St. Jerome’s, or celebrate Loren by enjoying a simple pleasure that you might not have experienced since you were a kid. Stop by your nearest playground to ride the swing set, treat yourself to a double scoop of ice cream, or greet a stranger with an extra big smile.
