Lou Dean Shepherd

December 2, 1935 — August 12, 2025

JEROME

Our angel wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend passed away peacefully on 12 August, 2025 in Jerome, Idaho, surrounded by her family. Lou was born on 2 December 1935, in Spring City, Utah, a small town surrounded by Horseshoe Mountain, or as we all called it “Grandad’s Mountain.” She is the 6th of nine children born to Terrance Watts Aiken and Crystal Beatrice Johansen. Her brothers and sisters are Betty Bea Aiken Goodwin, Lois Rhoda Aiken Hansen, Terrance Reverl Aiken, Donald Bernell Aiken, Mary Colleen Aiken Harmon, Fonda Kay Aiken Sorensen, Gerry J Aiken, and Nancy Aiken.

Lou Dean is the beloved wife of George Levoir Shepherd. George and Lou were high school sweethearts. They were married December 3, 1954, in the Manti, Utah temple. They began their marriage holding hands and continued that legacy of devotion, kindness and eternal love through 71 years of marriage. They are well known as the couple that could be seen nearly every day holding hands as they took an evening walk.

Lou and George have 5 amazing children, Scott (Jan) Shepherd, Deborah (Kirk) Jackson, Kent (Kassy) Shepherd, Christa (Kyle) Anderson, and Douglas (Ellen, now Ellen Swinney) Shepherd. Because of Lou and George’s example, their children learned to support and serve others and to love one another. At this time there are 23 grandchildren and 48 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild, all of them know how proud she is of them.

Lou was the kindest person on earth. She was funny and witty. She was capable and creative and there was nothing she couldn’t do. She sewed clothes for her children and made quilts for her grandchildren. There was always a delicious dinner waiting on the dinner table, followed by a fancy dessert. Mom canned peaches and homemade jam for the kids to enjoy with homemade bread when her children got home from school.

George and Lou did everything together. Their grandkids loved searching for flowers and pretty rocks while hiking with grandma on camping and fishing trips. Lou loved getting together with her sisters, they could stay up all night gabbing and giggling even into their golden years. She was very close to all of her and George’s siblings.

Lou was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She loved her Heavenly Father and our Savior Jesus Christ. She served as a Relief Society president and many other callings. She and George have been an example of service to all within their reach. They loved helping their friends, neighbors and family. Lou especially loved making any who came to their home to visit feel welcomed and loved.

Lou Dean is survived by her husband, George Shepherd; one brother, Gerry J Aiken, Salt Lake, Utah; three of her children; and her great posterity of grandchildren.

She was predeceased in death by two sons, Scott and Douglas; 2 grandchildren, Bradley Shepherd, Aundry Ann Christal Long; and one great grandchild, Gabriella NiKole Long.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 pm, Saturday August 23, 2025, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 100 South 50 East, Jerome Idaho. Interment will follow at the Jerome Cemetery.
