Rebecca “Jeannette” Deakins Luper left her earthly home and traded it for her forever heavenly home on February 24, 2026. She leaves behind a legacy of love for her children, grandchildren, and all those blessed to call her “Granny.”
Jeannette was born February 21, 1942, in Hilltop, Arkansas, to Clell Walker Deakins and Mary Etta “Marie” Conner Deakins, joining an older brother and four sisters. The family would be joined by a baby boy in 1951, but Jeannette was proud to retain the title of baby girl. She was always quick to remind everyone that she was the “baby girl.”
Jeannette enjoyed an idyllic childhood playing and making up games with her sisters and many cousins who lived nearby. She told her children endless stories of her childhood and growing up on the “mountain.” She would reminisce about walking to spend the night with her loving grandparents, riding the bus to school over Terrapin Creek, going to the little local store to buy a pound of baloney and a box of crackers for a nickel, being stuck in the one-room schoolhouse with the little boy who ate all the boiled eggs at the Easter egg hunt, embarrassing her sisters by ordering chili for breakfast the first time she went to a restaurant, biting her cousin’s nose because she kept pestering her, and showing sheep at the Arkansas State Fair, among other countless stories.
Jeannette married Lonnie Ray Luper on June 26, 1960, at the Hilltop Church of Christ, where she had attended growing up. The couple was married for 54 years and raised 5 children of their own, but were influential in the lives of many others over the years. They were also blessed with 13 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, with number 13 on the way. Granny was “adopted” by countless others and always had a heart big enough to love them all.
Jeannette was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ. She had actively attended services her whole life and would often be found sitting next to the picture window of her home, studying her Bible.
Jeannette enjoyed many hobbies over the years, such as cake decorating, photography, porcelain doll making, quilting, and embroidery. She was well known for her photography & won multiple ribbons at the local county fairs. Jeannette always had a camera in hand and took thousands of pictures over the years.
Jeannette was devoted to raising her kids and grandkids. She taught her children first to love Christ and serve him, but also to enjoy nature, be adventurous, love others, be kind, be generous, and to cheat at Monopoly and cards. If you ever played a game with her, you understand.
Jeannette is survived by her children, daughter Laura (Allen) Dean, son Eddie Luper, daughter-in-law Pam Luper, daughter Lonnette (Richard) Wilson, and sons David (Krista) Luper and Dustin ( Lindsay) Luper; grandchildren, Cody (Marie), Erika (Cody C.), Kayla (Jesse J.), Emily (Brett), Addie (Robert), Kaden (Emma), Elena (Jesse K.), Mattie (Troy), Kayden P., Stetzon, Holden, Whitten, and Tilden; and her great-grandchildren, Connor, Carson, Lane, Kennedy, Raylynn, Adaline, Olivia, Decker, Colt, Ranger, Lennix, Caydence, and one on the way.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lonnie; parents, Clell and Marie; one brother, Lee; two sisters, Imogene and Trudy; as well as many other beloved family members.
The family would like to thank the members of the Jerome Church of Christ who helped care for her the last several months, especially Lyn Langford and Vicky Ostic, as well as special friends Rachel and Mike Evans.
Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 pm, Thursday, March 5, 2026, at the Jerome Church of Christ, 513 S Buchanan St, Jerome. Friends and family are invited to a dinner following the service to visit and share memories of Granny.
Memories and condolences may be shared with the family on Jeannette’s memorial webpage at www.farnsworthmortuary.com.
