DIETRICH

Robert Anthony Von Berndt, a highly respected mechanic and beloved member of the Magic Valley community, passed away on April 23, 2026, in Twin Falls, Idaho. Born on February 23, 1959, in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, Robert devoted his life to his craft and his family with unwavering commitment and passion.

From the tender age of 17, Robert embraced his calling as a mechanic, ultimately building a distinguished career centered in Twin Falls. He proudly earned a Master’s degree in mechanics, an achievement that proved his dedication to his profession. His professional legacy was largely shaped by his time at Theisen Motors in Twin Falls, where he excelled and found genuine fulfillment. Known particularly for his expertise with Ford transmissions, Robert was honored as the #1 mechanic in all of the Magic Valley for Ford transmissions—a testament to his skill and dedication.

Robert’s life motto, "Work is never done...time is money, money is time," reflected not only his tireless work ethic but also his measured approach to life’s challenges. Those who knew him understood that this saying was deeply ingrained in his character.

His interests outside the garage were as vibrant and varied as his mechanical talents. An avid outdoorsman, Robert enjoyed hunting and fishing, spending many hours connecting with nature. He was also passionate about working on vehicles, watching movies, playing Clash Royale, cooking, canning, gardening, and was known for his commitment to recycling scrap metal. Perhaps most notably, Robert was a devoted Green Bay Packers fan, a loyalty that remained steadfast throughout his life.

Robert’s enduring impact extended well beyond his professional accolades. He is survived by his beloved children, Lorraine, Robert Jr., Anthony, Lynn, and Leonard, who carry forward his legacy of determination and care. He also leaves behind his brothers, Daniel and Ronnie Preston; his 20+ grandchildren and his great-grandchildren, who will remember him fondly; and numerous friends throughout the Magic Valley, who treasured his friendship and guidance.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents; and his siblings, Christopher, Penny, Eugene, Andre, and Chief.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 pm, with a viewing beginning at 1:00 pm, Friday, May 1, 2026, at Farnsworth Mortuary, 1343 S Lincoln Ave, Jerome.

Robert had a love of wiener dogs and will be laid to rest with his pride and joy, Annabelle, at the Dietrich cemetery at a later date.
