Rubye "Sam" Charlene Twitchell, passed away peacefully on August 30, 2026, in Twin Falls, Idaho. She was born on February 9, 1941, in Welch, Oklahoma, to Harvey and Mary Rogers Whismore, and lived a life marked by devotion to her family, quiet strength, and a steady commitment to learning.
Sam graduated from Hagerman High School, an early milestone that reflected her determination and character. She later continued her education and received an Associate Degree in Bookkeeping from the College of Southern Idaho in Twin Falls, Idaho. That accomplishment spoke to her perseverance and the value she placed on growth and education throughout her life.
Sam married Leroy Twitchell on October 18, 1959 in Jerome, Idaho. She was a devoted housewife and also worked for the family welding business and drove spud truck during harvest. She enjoyed canning, quilting by hand, gardening, camping, and traveling. But her greatest joy was her grandchildren.
She is survived by her children, Bryan and Angie Twitchell, Eric and Lana Twitchell, Shawnna and John Knott, and Kyle Twitchell; 10 grandkids; 14 great grandkids, with one expected in November; and 1 great great grandchild with one expected this month. She is also survived by her sister, Mary (Blonde) Robbins. The family she leaves behind carries forward the memory of her love, her presence, and the many shared moments that shaped their lives.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leroy; her parents, her infant daughter, Nina; her granddaughter, Chasity; and her siblings Dick, Bette, and Bud. Their memories remained a lasting part of her life and story.
A memorial service will be held at 5:00 pm, Thursday, September 17, 2026, at Freewill Baptist Church, 810 S Cleveland St, Jerome, Idaho 83338.
