Ruth Ann Hurst Walters passed away at the age of 82 on November 8, 2023, after a brief battle with cancer. Ruth was born March 28, 1941, to Darold Alva and Agnes Ann Steidley Hurst in Nyssa, OR. After her dad was killed during World War II, she and her mother lived in Nebraska before settling in Idaho. Ruth lived in Boise up until the 6th grade before moving to Moscow so her mother could obtain a degree in Education. Once completed, they moved to Mountain Home before settling in Jerome. Ruth graduated from Jerome High School in 1959 and attended college in Moscow for a time.
Ruth married Charles Riley Walters November 7, 1964, and to this union two children were born, Gina Rae in 1966 and Aaron Charles in 1971. Ruth spent many years as a farmer’s wife and homemaker prior to returning to the work force. She worked for Fred and Alberta Beguhl at Jerome Bowl cooking and bartending for 20 years. Ruth was very dedicated to many aspects of bowling. She had been secretary of the Twilight league for 50 years and bowled on multiple leagues throughout her life. She was also very involved in what was known as YABA (Young American Bowling Alliance) which helped grow the youth bowling program in Jerome.
Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Riley; parents, Darold and Agnes; her in-laws, Charley and Madeline; and brothers and sisters in law, Mark Walters, Douglas Walters, Tony Kuntz, Kirk Brower, Marva Walters and Sylvia Dill.
She is survived by her children and their spouses, Gina Jerke (Rodney) and Aaron Walters (Troy Adams); grandchildren, Jordan Jerke (Nicole) and Mackenzie Jensen (Tyler); and Jace Bloom (Bridget); great grandchildren, Bodi and Isla Jerke; Jude and Olive Jensen; and another great grandchild due in May; and Sophia, Emma and Cassidy Bloom. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Gail Kuntz and Charlotte (Rich) Allen, Marilyn Brower and Terry Walters; as well as many nieces and nephews and cousins.
Gina and I would like to thank the staff at St Luke's in Jerome for their excellent care of our mom. You all were very kind and compassionate and we are grateful for that.
