JEROME

Mother, Wife, Daughter, Sister, Aunt.

Mom went to be with the Lord and her family on June 25, 2025.

This is written for my beautiful Mother, a Love Letter to my Mom.

My Mom, Sandra Rose Hubsmith Weigt, was born on November 1, 1941 to Seymour and Rozina Lee Hubsmith in Rupert, Idaho. She was born on her Father’s birthday. Grandpa was very happy to have a daughter because they had 3 sons; Louis Leon, Gary Lee, and Stephen Gene. My Mom grew up in the most wonderful family with loving parents and 3 wonderful brothers who were all very protective of her. They raised their children up in the LDS church. They were brought up so close, loving, and supportive of one another. My Mom idolized her Mother and always wanted to be just like her.

Grandpa and Grandma made sure that my Mom had all the opportunities to study dance, voice, and piano. Grandma would take my Mom to different venues to perform her solo dance routines near and far. One such time, Grandma took Mom to dance at the Sun Valley Lodge and Clark Gable approached my Grandmother and said, “your daughter is so talented. I wish I could take her to Hollywood to be another little Shirley Temple.”

In 1950, Grandpa and Grandma moved Mom and her brothers to Richfield to farm. Uncle Leon had graduated from Rupert High School and went into the Air Force Academy to become a pilot. My Grandparents continued to work hard and made a good life for Gary, Gene, and Mom. Mom continued with her dance, singing, and piano, and also excelled in riding horses and sports. She won Richfield Outlaw Days Queen and also participated in several other Rodeo Queen competitions, including Miss Rodeo Idaho. Grandma and Mom were always so close spending their time together traveling to Mom’s activities. Mom was always an excellent student.

Mom attended BYU in Provo her first year of college. After one year of college, Mom married Ron Gillett of Hailey, Idaho. While attending ISU, Mom gave birth to me. Mom was only 20 when I was born and we soon became everything for each other. They graduated from Utah State in Logan with their teaching degrees. They got teaching jobs at Jerome High School for the fall of 1965. Ron and my Mom divorced that year.

Mom excelled at being a gifted teacher at Jerome High School for 31 years. Mom sincerely cared about her students success and well being and encouraged their academic success and success in life. Mom taught college prep English, Speech, Debate, Drama, Radio Speaking, and Declamation. She loved coaching the competitive Speech and Debate teams for many years. Her Speech and Debate teams were always very successful and many of Mom’s students have been lifelong friends.

Grandma, Mom, and I were always so close shopping and lunching through the years and enjoying every minute being together in our love and companionship. Mom and I continued the tradition even going to Vegas 14 years in a row over my Spring Break each year.

In 1970, Mom married the man of her dreams. She married a tall, handsome cowboy by the name of Denny Weigt. He became the husband and father that we both needed. The three of us were a family from day one, going on vacations together, watching westerns, going to our horse races, or hanging out on the farm. Dad was the ultimate horseman. He had a gift for raising and training quarter horses. Dad and Mom loved their life together taking care of their horses and working the farm together. My parents were happily married for 51 years and always together.

My parents and I loved spending time and making memories with Dad’s brothers and their families and also my Mom’s brothers and families. Dad and Mom’s racehorses were very successful running at various tracks across the Western United States with the help of a very skilled trainer by the name of Monty Arrossa. Monty and his Mother, Linda, quickly became family to us. Uncle Harley and Aunt Kasey and their kids, Steve, Dennis, and Debbie, always joined in the fun at the races which makes the memories even sweeter. My new husband was also able to celebrate with my parents and I and join in on the memories at the horse races.

We were heartbroken 4 years ago when my Dad passed away. My husband, Gary, was my Mom and I’s rock, counseling us and leading us in prayers. We were able to take Mom on drives and lunches the last four years making even more memories.

The Lord knew that I wanted an awesome Mother, so he gave me the best. I want to thank my Mom for her unconditional love and support for me. Mom, we miss you and have a huge void in our lives. The Lord knew it was time to take you home to be with Dad, Grandma, Grandpa, and your brothers. We have our memories of us being together with you to get us through until we see you again.

I want to thank you all and our family and friends for your love, prayers, blessings, and support through this journey. I want to thank my husband for your love and support for Mom and I.

I want to send a big thank you to Amra Suljevic, who was my Mom’s doctor and always took great care of her. I want to send a big thank you to the Ashley Manor Staff for their love and care of Mom, and a big thank you to Auburn Crest Hospice Staff for your love and care for my Mom.

My Mother is survived by her daughter, Larke, and son-in-law, Gary; her brother, Gene Hubsmith and wife Ruth; and nieces and nephews.

Mom was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Denny; and brothers, Leon and Gary.
