Sergio Martinez

February 28, 1992 — December 8, 2017

Sergio Sebastian Martinez, 25, of Jerome Idaho, peacefully passed away on Friday, December 8, 2017 at the University Of Washington Medical Center in Seattle, Washington.

Sergio was born on February 28, 1992 in Twin Falls, Idaho, the son of Serafin and Stephinee (Fernandez) Martinez.  He grew up in Jerome and attended school at St. Edwards Catholic School, Jerome Middle School and Jerome High School. He attended Trinity Lutheran College in Everett, WA on a soccer scholarship earning MVP all four years. Serg graduated in spring of 2014. He then went on to play semi-pro soccer for FC Tacoma/OSA in Seattle Washington.  Serg also coached soccer at Mountlake Terrace High School and Shoreline Community College.  He worked as an auditor at Northwest Administrators in Seattle Washington and Meridian Idaho.

Those who know Serg know that soccer was his passion; he lived and breathed for it from a very young age. His parents will never forget him trying to kick a soccer ball before he could even walk. Around the age of 9 he told them he didn’t have time for his other activities because soccer was his sport.  He loved it and wanted to play every moment he had. Every now and then he would squeeze in some tee time, as he also loved to golf with his friends, especially with little Nixon.

Serg lived for family and friends, and everyone loves him for that. He is genuine, kind, positive, polite and very well mannered. Serg is a very strong and hardworking man who never let anyone or anything stop him from fighting for what he wanted out of life.  He lived and loved life to the fullest. He is silly and always knows how to brighten the mood; he always knew how to put a smile on anyone’s face, his smile was contagious. He touched the hearts of those he came in contact with. Serg is an AMAZING son, brother, cousin, nephew, friend, young man and person that will remain in the hearts of us all.

Sergio is survived by his parents, Serafin and Stephinee (Fernandez) Martinez of Jerome; sister Yesenia Martinez of Jerome; brothers Luis Benny Martinez and Andres (Chubby) Martinez of Jerome; Grandmother Rosa Martinez Maldonado of Guanajuato, Mexico; Grandfather Anastasio Pedro Fernandez of Gooding; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his Grandmother Barbara K Zamarripa; Grandfather Serafin Martinez and Aunt Victoria Cervantes.

Sergio’s family would like to express their sincere thanks to Dr. John Pagel, Beth, Sonia and wonderful staff at Swedish Cancer Institute-First Hill, Dr. Filippo Milano and the amazing staff at Seattle Cancer Care Alliance and University of Washington Medical Center in Seattle Washington.

Sergio touched so many lives in his short time with us.  He will genuinely be missed by many.
