Shari Lynn Atkin

Apr 3, 1973 — Nov 3, 2026

JEROME

Shari Lynn (Fleming) Atkin passed away on November 3, 2026, surrounded by her children and her family. Shari was born two months prematurely on April 3, 1973, in Kingman, Arizona. From her very first moments, being resuscitated after birth by a young doctor observing her Cesarean section delivery, she demonstrated a remarkable tenacity for life. The next 53 years were filled with joy, abiding faith, quiet determination, and steadfast endurance through many trials.

Raised in Kingman, Shari graduated from Kingman High School in 1991. She pursued higher education at Ricks College in Rexburg, Idaho, and later attended The Bryman School in Glendale, Arizona, where she certified as a medical assistant. After gaining practical experience at a medical clinic in Kingman and living with her sister in Provo, Utah, Shari felt called to serve a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

She served a full-time mission for The Church in the New York Rochester Mission from 1995 to 1996. There, she helped pioneer the role of sister missionaries as historical site tour guides in the Rochester area. It was during her missionary service that she met her future husband, Thomas Atkin.

Shari and Tom built a rich life together across the country, residing in Logan, Utah; Charleston, South Carolina; Silverdale, Washington; Ephraim, Utah; and Jerome, Idaho. Together, they welcomed and raised four children. Throughout these years, Shari continued her studies at Utah State University, worked in various professional roles, and took immense pride in being a Navy wife, faithfully anchoring her home and caring for her children during Tom’s military responsibilities.

On January 5, 2015, Shari received a life-saving bilateral lung transplant. This miraculous gift provided her nearly twelve additional years of life, enabling her to continue her vital role as a devoted wife and mother and giving her the joy of seeing all four of her children grow into adulthood.

Shari is survived by her husband, Tom, of Jerome; her children, Christine of Jerome, Idaho, Hallie of Twin Falls, Idaho, Theron of Chico, California, and Richard Matthew of Jerome; her parents, Theron and Debbie Fleming of Kingman; her sister, Cindi (Jeff) McNiven of Kingman; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her niece, Caiti McNiven.

Shari’s family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the Lung Transplant Team at the University of Utah for nearly 12 years of compassionate, dedicated care, as well as the doctors and nurses of the ER and ICU at St. Luke’s Magic Valley for their extraordinary comfort and support during her final days.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Shari’s name to Help Hope Live, a non-profit organization dedicated to easing the financial burden of medical challenges that greatly supported Shari and her family, or a charity of your choice.

Funeral service will be held at 3:00 pm, with a viewing beginning a 2:00 pm, Saturday, November 7, 2026, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Jerome Stake Center, 26 N Tiger Dr, Jerome. Grave dedication will conclude at Jerome Cemetery.
