William Alfred Pflueger

William Pflueger, affectionately known as “Bill” to those who knew and loved him, passed away peacefully on July 21, 2026, after a long and courageous battle with Parkinson’s disease. Born May 29, 1946 in Wisconsin, Bill’s journey through life was as vibrant and colorful as the seasons of his birthplace.

In 2010, Bill embarked on a new chapter, leaving behind the sunlit shores of Ft. Lauderdale to embrace the serene landscape of Idaho. It was not a difficult decision since Jackpot was only 45 miles away. He found joy and companionship with Melanie Gray, his beloved partner in adventures and exploration. Together, they shared many memorable experiences, traveling all over the northwest and even to Alaska.

Bill dedicated many years of his professional life to Burkhart Services in Florida, where his work ethic and integrity left and indelible mark. Beyond his career, Bill was a man of community and compassion. He served diligently on the Board of Directors at the Jerome Senior Center, where his presence was known daily. An avid player of Bunco, Nickels, and Pinochle, he found joy in the comraderies those games fostered, always welcoming others to his table.

His involvement with the Optimist Club exemplified his passion for uplifting others, particularly children. Whether helping at the fishing derby or setting up for breakfast with Santa, you could always count on his willingness to do whatever was needed to put a smile on a child’s face. Bill always made sure that if a child was playing a sport and needed equipment, he would buy them what they needed. He also participated in Coats for Kids, sometimes buying 40 coats at a time. Bill’s generosity knew no bounds, his dedication to making a difference was evident in every action, big or small.

Bill loved building Legos (thanks to Dave). Even as Parkinson’s limited his mobility, Bill’s spirit remained undaunted. Friends who joined him for cards at Desano Place filled his Wednesdays with joy and companionship, a testament to the lasting friendships he cultivated.

A sports enthusiast at heart, Bill was a devout fan of the Miami Hurricanes, Green Bay Packers, and Los Angeles Dodgers. His wardrobe showed his loyalty, often wearing jerseys. If there was a game on, you would find him eating Ruffles and drinking Diet Pepsi in his recliner.

Bill was a beacon of kindness and reliability, known for his willingness to help others without hesitation. Such as shoveling the driveways of his eight friends before they even realized it snowed, because it was 5:00 in the morning. His actions spoke volumes to his character. He was a man whose word was his bond, a trait that endeared him to all who had the privilege of knowing him.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to those who visited Bill during his time at Desano Place. Despite his inability to frequent the Rec Center and Senior Center, the knocks on windows and warmth from visitors and their munchkins, was a source of joy and sunshine in his life. Bill cherished every Sunday with “The Trespasser”. The love and care he received from his caregivers at Desano forever touched his heart and he considered them family, many of them only being addressed by their nicknames.
